Die Schlacht von Stiklestad am 29. Juli 1030 bei dem kleinen Ort Stiklestad in der Gemeinde Verdal (Nord-Trøndelag, etwa 90 km nördlich von Trondheim) besiegelte endgültig die vollständige Christianisierung und die Reichswerdung Norwegens.


Stiklestad ist vor allem als Tatort der Schlacht von Stiklestad bekannt, wo der norwegische Nationalheld Olav der Heilige (Sankt Olav) am 29. Juli 1030 getötet wurde. Dies war ein wichtiger Markstein im Übergang Norwegens zum Christentum. Jährlich wird an die letzten Tage Sankt Olavs in einem Schauspiel erinnert: Spelet om Heilag Olav (Das Spiel vom heiligen Olav). Dieses Stück wurde zum ersten Mal 1954 aufgeführt.
