九尾の狐とは、中国神話の生物。9本の尻尾をもつ妖狐。つまり、狐の妖怪である。総称として尾裂狐とも呼ばれる。稲荷神との習合があり、それによって同一視もされる。
万単位の年月を生きた古狐が化生したものだともいわれ、妖狐の最終形態の存在であるとされる。
