A project for a heavy tank that arose at cusp of the 1950s and 1960s—a period of headlong growth in tank-building research, active development of new models, and attempts to improve existing vehicles. This vehicle combined elements of the IS-7 and Object 277 heavy tanks. However, as the approach to tank-building changed—with role becoming a decisive factor rather than combat weight—development of heavy tanks was stopped.
